A special academic convocation will be held at the Audio Visual Theater of the Silliman University in Dumaguete City on November 3, 2008 at 10 a.m. Invited guest speaker will be Jaroslav Ludva, Ambassador of Czech Republic to the Philippines.

The Ambassador will discuss about the friendship between the Philippine national hero Dr. Jose Rizal and Prague-born Dr. Ferdinand Blumentritt during the Spanish colonial era in the Philippines, according to Prof. Carlos Magtolis Jr. of the Silliman University Lectures.

Ludva gained national prominence in 2006 when he unveiled his Czech translation of “Mi Ultimo Adios” — written by Rizal hours before his execution in December 1896 – on a marker at Fort Santiago in Intramuros and recently launched a volume of poems entitled “titled “Doce Poemas de las Islas Filipinas” which pays tribute to the Philippine history, our Spanish colonial architecture, the Filipino people, and more importantly on the life of Rizal and his friendship with Blumentritt.
