BacoLaodiat Festival : Bacolod City

Bacolod City in Negros Occidental is not only known for its colorful and elegant Masskara Festival celebration, but today a must see and unique event   has been born to add and  will give more excitement and celebration to the city of smile. BacoLaodiat is derived from the words Bacolod and “Lao Diat”, which is Fookien for celebration.  It was started way back 2004. Capitol Shopping Center in Bacolod City, known as the Chinatown of Bacolod City because of the great number of Chinese businessmen and residents in the area, was chosen the center of celebration for this upcoming event.

The BacoLaodiat Festival will kick-off this January 23, and it will run until January 26, 2009. The 4-days celebration of this event will make visitors and local people discover and fall in love with the unique side of Bacolod City by featuring the best of the Chinese and Filipino cultures brought and enhance together in one Big Chinese New Year Celebration.

Featured events that can be witnessed are the Chopsticks Alley along the streets of Narra and Lopez Jaena starting on the 23rd. This food walk and night market will be lined up with colorful rolling carts of delicious Chinese food, souvenirs and art and crafts. Street performers wearing attractive and glittery Chinese costumes will surely entertain the crowd and add to the festive ambiance of the place.

Also opening on the 23rd at the festival site is the Lantern Park, featuring a Symphony of Lights and Sparks. This will include a nightly display of illuminated colorful giant lanterns by local artists and synchronized multi-fireworks show scored with music and drumbeats. On the 24th, 10 dance groups will battle it out in the Lantern Street-dancing Competition on the street of Bacolod City, the competition will kick-off at 6:30pm from Bacolod Public Plaza to the festival site. A total of P160,000 is awaiting for the contestant to be declared winner.

Go crazy over the animated and colorful Dazzling Parade scheduled on the 25th at 6pm. A definite must-see, the parade will showcase beautifully illuminated floats, lanterns, lions and dragons alongside Chinese drumbeaters, acrobats or Wu Shu and Kaddang dancers and a major float carrying a long-lighted dragon with lions. The parade route is from the SM Bacolod South Carpark to the festival site.

Experience the merging of two cultures in the Convergence: A Tsinoy Show with its line-up of Chinese and Filipino songs and dances, right after the Dazzling Parade.

Stay for the most exciting part of welcoming the Year of the Ox’the New Year countdown. It’s all happening just before the spectacular colorful fireworks display around the main site.

This 4th BacoLaodiat Festival is organized and arranged by the BacoLaodiat Inc. in cooperation with the City of Bacolod, Province of Negros Occidental, Department of Tourism, Negros Tsinoy Inc., Chowking, SM Bacolod, Pagcor and Triangle Island Plaza. This is also supported by Senator Mar Roxas.
