The Department of Public Works and Highways released a statement that the Bacolod-Silay Airport Access Road in Negros Occidental is one of their top priority projects this year according to DPWH 6 Regional Director Rolando Asis.
Last October President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo led the ground breaking ceremony for the development of a 10 to 12 kilometers access road, and ordered the release of P200 million funds to start the P1.5-billion road construction project.
The president also ordered the contractor to finish two of the four lanes of the access road in eight months, and complete the remaining lanes in another eight months.
Other priority projects of DPWH in the Western Visayas this year are the P164-million concreting of the 9.93-kilometer portion of Iloilo City Caticlan Highway; P70-million widening of the Iloilo City – Sta. Barbara Road, with additional fund of P175 million; and the P70-million construction of the Metro Radial Road, also with an additional fund of P355 million.
Asis said that by fast-tracking these projects, the DPWH is complying with the Economic Resiliency Plan of the national government aimed to stimulate the economy and mitigate the impacts of the global financial crisis.
If there are more projects to implement in the region, there will more jobs and a more stable economy, he added.
