			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>For two consecutive years now, that a Philippine invitational fireworks competition (PYRO MAGIC 2008) are sponsored <a href="http://www.insidenegros.com/negros-occidental/bacolod-city/">Bacolod City</a> and SM City Bacolod. The fireworks display competition is held in the SM City grounds. Teams from different cities and provinces in the Philippines joined the competition. This year, there are six competing teams from <a href="http://www.insidenegros.com/negros-oriental/dumaguete-city/">Dumaguete</a>, Bulacan, Manila and Bacolod.</p>
<p>This is the must seen event in the city during the Christmas season. People of Bacolod and neighboring cities and municipalities in <a href="http://www.insidenegros.com/negros-occidental/">Negros Occidental</a> gather in the mall parking area and patiently waiting for colorful fireworks to light the dark sky. Fireworks display starts at 9:00pm for two Saturday’s of December (13th and 20th). Three participants showcase their works every Saturday and announcement of winners will be on December 20, 2008, last day of the competition.</p>
<p>The photos reflect the beautiful fireworks of the first three contestants. <p>The making of giant Christmas tree in the city has been a tradition to the Baisnon for the past 38 years and according to the organizer the Christmas tree is increasing its height every year.  The city spent almost P 80,000 to build the giant revolving Christmas tree which was made up of recycled indigenous materials and designed with colorful marine life, such as whales and dolphins, adhering to this year&#8217;s theme &#8220;Preservation of marine life for children&#8217;s future.&#8221; , as the city was known for dolphins and whales as their major tourist attractions. The city was also planning to increase about 10 feet the height of Christmas tree by next year.</p>
<p>The city government also provide ice cream to children every Saturday and Sunday and the entire day on Christmas Day as a part of their Yuletide Season project. The ice cream giveaway started with the lighting of the giant Christmas tree.  The city targets to treat more than 2,000 children to free train and swan rides inside the plaza. </p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>The <a href="http://www.insidenegros.com/negros-occidental/bacolod-city/">Bacolod City</a> Rotary Club conducted a medical mission last Saturday, December 6, 2008 at the Antonio Chan Memorial Technical Center in Brgy. Bata, Bacolod City a report from the Rotary Club.</p>
<p>The medical mission was composed of a team of 40 volunteer doctors, dentists and nurses that help and provide medical assistance to the residents of the barangay. This annual mission was organized by Rotary Medical Committee in honor of the late and past President and major donor of the medical programs of the club, Mr. Mariano Lim.</p>
<p>In almost nine years of this program, the missions have benefited thousands, many of whom would not normally be able to afford a visit to the doctor or to buy medicines, according Jojo Montinola, the Rotary Club President.</p>
<p>The RCBM undertakes many community activities each year including <a href="http://www.insidenegros.com/2008/09/17/medical-dental-mission-held-in-negros-occidental/">medical missions</a>, wheelchair donations, environmental support activities, feeding programs and support for a local day care center. It also organizes the annual fund-raising “Rotary - Golf for a Cause” tournament at the <a href="http://www.insidenegros.com/negros-occidental/">Negros Occidental</a> Golf and Country Club.</p>

<p>The guest of honor during the convention is no other than <a href="http://www.insidenegros.com/negros-occidental/">Negros Occidental</a> Vice-Governor Dino Yulo who initiated the opening ceremony of the two-days gathering.</p>
<p>Other guests from the Soroptimist International Philippines Region national office were Governor Carmen Flor, governor-elect Paloma Papa, membership chairperson Myra Abubakar, SIPR treasurer Marisol Tugade, fundraising chair Chit de la Cruz, and Western Visayas district director Milagros Hechanova.</p>
<p>A mass was also held and officiated by Fr. Chris Gonzalez before the fellowship night of musical and dance competitions participated by different clubs.</p>
<p>SI Silay City bagged and awarded as the Best Presentation awards in Song Solo and Ballroom categories; while the Metro Bago in the Choreographed Dance competition and Iloilo City in the Choral Singing. A song solo intermission number was also provided by SI Bacolod past President Prima Pefianco which serenade the participants and delegates with her rendition of “Thank You, Love”.</p>
<p>SIMB president Thelma Watanabe and past SIPR governor and (Soroptimist International of the America) past federation director, Joy Valdez served as Masters of Ceremonies for the night.</p>
<p>The activities closed with a field trip to the OISCA Silk Center and to the Philippine National Oil Company–Energy Development Corporation the next day, with a brief stop-over at nearby <a href="http://www.insidenegros.com/category/resorts-and-beaches/">Pataan Resort</a>, according to report.</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>The <a href="http://www.insidenegros.com/negros-oriental/">Negros Oriental</a> will celebrate their Christmas with the annual Pinaskuhan Sayawit Festival Competition that will kick December 13, 2008 at the Sidlakaung Village, Brgy. Piapi  Dumaguete City.</p>
<p>The said <a href="http://www.insidenegros.com/category/negros-festivals-events/">festival</a> will run from December 2008 until January 1, 2009 according to Board Member Mariant Villegas, Chaiperson, Committee on Culture and Arts. The competition during the festival will include Sayawit, Parol and Dayan-Dayan. Seven local government units have already give their signal to join in the festival and they are <a href="http://www.insidenegros.com/negros-oriental/dumaguete-city/">Dumaguete City</a>, <a href="http://www.insidenegros.com/negros-oriental/bayawan-city/">Bayawan City</a>, <a href="http://www.insidenegros.com/negros-oriental/municipality-tayasan/">Tayasan</a>, <a href="http://www.insidenegros.com/negros-oriental/municipality-san-jose/">San Jose</a>, <a href="http://www.insidenegros.com/negros-oriental/municipality-santa-catalina/">Sta. Catalina</a>, <a href="http://www.insidenegros.com/negros-oriental/municipality-sibulan/">Sibulan</a> and <a href="http://www.insidenegros.com/negros-oriental/municipality-mabinay/">Mabinay</a> other cities and municipalities are also expected to join and supported the festival this coming days.</p>
<p>The local government of Negros Oriental will provide assistance amounting P 10, 000 for the participants as subsidiary.</p>
<p>Winners in the Sayawit will receive P60, 000, P50, 000, and P40, 000 for the first, second and third places, respectively. The Dayan-dayan, or Christmas decorations, will be held at the LGUs Agri-fair booths. Winners will receive P50, 000, P40, 000 and P30, 000 cash prizes for the best Christmas decorations for first, second and third spots. Non-winning entries for the Rondalla and Dayan-dayan will also get P10, 000 in consolation prize.</p>
<p>Meanwhile, the parols will be displayed on the Sidlakan Village stage. Top three winners will get P10, 000, P5, 000 and P3, 000 while non-winners will receive P2, 000 each in consolation prizes. The Best Rondalla Accompaniment will take home P10, 000.  </p>
<p>All entries for  the Dayan-dayan and Parol competitions should be made out of indigenous and native materials except for the lightings, organizers said.</p>
<p>Prizes will be given in cash but LGU’s are encouraged to spend the money related to culture and tourism.The judges for the Sayawit, Parol and Dayan-dayan competition are guests from Manila. The awarding ceremony will be on Jan.1, 2009 during the Negros Oriental Day celebration.</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>In the recently first BPO Summit 2008 which was held at the Crowne Plaza Hotel and Holiday Inn Pasig City last December 2 and 3, Bacolod City and other cities was included in the Top Ten Next Wave Cities for outsourcing in the Philippines outside of Metro Manila and Metro Cebu.</p>
<p><a href="http://www.insidenegros.com/negros-occidental/bacolod-city/">Bacolod City</a> grabbed the fifth spot in the overall rankings based on the scorecard of the Commission on Information and Communication Technology, Business Process Association of the Philippines and the Department of Trade and Industry.  Bacolod City acting mayor Thaddeus Sayson and Councilor Jocelle Batapa-Sigue, chairperson of the Bacolod-Negros Occidental Federation for <a href="http://www.insidenegros.com/negros-jobs-opportunities/computers-and-telecommunication/">Information and Communication Technology </a>Inc. received the plague of recognition from the ICT industry leaders, including Gigi Virata of the Business Process Association of the Philippines and CICT Commissioner Monchito Ibrahim. </p>
<p>Other cities that were also included in the list are Metro Laguna, composed of Santa Rosa City, Calamba City, Los Baños, Cabuyao and San Pablo City, was recognized as the best outsourcing location outside Metro Manila and Metro Cebu, with a score of 88.  Metro Cavite, comprised of Dasmariñas, Bacoor, Imus and Cavite City, was second with a score of 85 percent.</p>
<p>The following are the scores of other top ten next-wave cities:  Iloilo, 81 percent; Davao, 80 percent; Bacolod, 78 percent; Angeles-Clark-Mabalacat, 77 percent; Baliuag-Marilao-Meycauyan, 74 percent; Cagayan de Oro, 73 percent; Malolos-Calumpit, 73 percent; and Lipa City, 73 percent.</p>
<p>The cities of Iloilo and Cagayan de Oro topped the cost criterion, which took into account the cost of labor and office space.</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>The sky of <a href="http://www.insidenegros.com/negros-occidental/bacolod-city/">Bacolod City</a> will once again be ignited by different colors of fireworks on the eve of December 13 and 20, 2008, it is because a free festival of family entertainment called “The PyroMagic, The Return” will be witness on the said date, this event was once again sponsored by the SM City Bacolod.</p>
<p>The events, a musical fireworks competition and special activities for shoppers, are a joint project of the mall, the city government of Bacolod, and Out of the Box Events and Productions.</p>
<p>This year, shoppers can enjoy six different fireworks shows on two weekends. On Dec. 13, three teams from Manila and Bulacan will shoot to the music of Disney classics, and selections from Disney Christmas Favorites.</p>
<p>On Dec. 20, three more contingents from the cities of Bacolod and <a href="http://www.insidenegros.com/negros-oriental/dumaguete-city/">Dumaguete</a> will showcase their fireworks to highlight the Disney selections from Disney Family Christmas Collection.</p>
