Arte Kalye Festival Slated in Bacolod City

123The Art Association of Bacolod-Negros will celebrate its first “Arte Kalye Festival” on February 1-28, 2009. The one month long celebration will transfrom a street of Bacolod into a cultural hub which will be started with a mural painting of the road beside the Riverside Medical Center, Bacolod City on Sunday

This transformation will be the 1st Negros Arte Kalye Festival – a place where artists can gather as a community as they engage in art fora, workshops (music, visual arts, dance and literary), concerts, conferences, cultural dialogs, exhibits, art fair, mural painting, installation, etc.

According Festival director and AAB-Negros president Nunelencio Alvarado ” “This is fitting since the theme of the Arts Month is “Art in Public Places.” The activity will be held in a small street where the neighborhood is receptive to the arts, especially the owners of the bistros, bars and restaurants in the area, he said. The local government of the city allowed the organizer the street every Sunday a one- month long activity so that the artists, musicians, performing artists and other organizations joining the event can do their thing. He also stressed out that if this event will be successful one it might be continude to celebrate every year.

Other activities to watch during this event are Poetry reading to be held at the Namit-Namit Pagkaon kag Taliambong every Saturday, film showing at the Scape Gallery Bar every Friday, workshops and of course here will be concerts by different local bands in the evening.

888 China Square Mall to Hold 3-day Sale

The 888 China Square Mall will have a Chinese New Year’s Gift to the people of Bacolod City as the mall will conduct their three day sale from January 29 to 31 2008, a press release from the mall management. Along with this event there will be a Tikoy tasting from the said date and on January 30 a midnight sale will take place.

There will be also a Chinese costume contest for kids. Children aged 7 years and below are qualified to join the contest, for those who are interested to join the activity, the pre-registration will be at the information counter of the mall until January 29, 2009.

A parade of contestants will be held around the mall and the final judging will be at the Peacock area at 3 p.m. on January 31.

Male and female first prize winners will receive P1,800 each, and the second and third place winners P1,300 and P800, respectively. Tokens will be given to non-winners, according to the management.

BacolaoDiat Festival Ends with a Bang

The city mayor of Bacolod praised and congratulated all those who help and responsible for the successful celebration of 2009 BacoLaodiat Festival. The mayor also promised that this festival will be now celebrated every year to attract more local and foreign tourists to the city.

BacoLaodiat Festival organizers headed by its chairman Mr. Leonito “Diotay” Lopue said they hope that the public has learned more about Chinese culture and traditions and it’s assimilation with the Filipino way of life through this colorful festival.

After some sort of messages from different personalities, the announcement of winners for the street dance competition took place. The You See is What You Get Dance Group was named as the Champion of the Lantern Street Dancing Competition receiving a trophy and a cash prize of P75, 000. The winning group was also adjudged as Best in Execution.

While the dancers from the University of St. La Salle took home the first place trophy and P50, 000 prize money, aside from the award for the Best Lantern Concept and second place was awarded to The Members of the group from Brgy. Robles El Capitan in La Castellana town, Negros Occidental, they bagged a trophy and winning cash price of P25,000.

The celebration was closed with a colorful and spectacular Fireworks display that gives a light in the sky of Bacolod City.

The typical trip to a beach resort is expensive, to say the least. How, then, can you find a cheap beach vacation? Start by identifying what you really want.

Do you really need to stay at a big resort? If that’s important to you, and you still want to save some money on your trip, you need to be flexible on dates a bit. Try the “shoulder season” (just before the season gets going or right after it starts to wind down). Often there are deals that save you as much as 50% at these times.
