Municipality of Valladolid
The town was named after the first capital of the Spain by the Spanish leader, which one of them was a native of Valladolid, Spain. During the Spanish era the church holds a great authority in running the affairs of the government, which made Valladolid as one of most progressive pueblos in the Negros.
Valladolid was established in the year 1860. The settlers made Valladolid a landing area in coming to Negros. This brought about the introduction of sugar in Negros that resulted in the economic growth and prosperity of the island.The town is known as the Rice Granary of Negros Occidental with 90 percent of its arable land planted to palay. It produce more than half a million cavans of rice every year.
Valladolid dubbed as the “Fruit Basket” of the province because of its huge production of fruits on their town. The municipipality celebrated their town Fiesta every February 28 of the year. Valladolid is a 4th class municipality of the province, according to the 2000 Census of NSO, the town population was about 32, 576 people in 6, 653 households.
